Wrestling: Senior Night
On Wednesday, Feb. 8, four Lodi seniors wrestled their last match ever in between the walls of Lodi High School. Cory Primo, Chris Kennedy, David Pena, Ryan Clancy, John Zecca, and Chris Caban were all honored by friends, family, and faculty on their special night. Unfortunately, due to injury, Kennedy and Pena weren’t able to compete. Nonetheless, the four active seniors left it all on the mat one last time. Assistant Coach Alex Mella shared, “Our seniors have helped create an environment in our wrestling room that should carry on for years to come. We are all very proud of each of them and expect big things from them in the post season.”
The first senior to wrestle was, captain, Caban at 126 pounds and he capped his Lodi career off with a pin in two minutes and 45 seconds. Next up, Zecca took care of business as well, pinning his opponent in five minutes and 45 seconds. At the 145 pound weight class, was the match of the night. Back and forth battle ensued, but Clancy would not let anyone rain on his parade, pulling out the 6-3 victory in dramatic fashion. Last but not least, was our lovable heavyweight. Primo is a first year wrestler, still very green to the sport, but his effort has been top notch. Primo’s last match ended when he was pinned in two minutes and 38 seconds. Fortunately, Primo was all smiles after the match and told The Rampage he was just happy to be able to compete in this great sport.
Overall, it was a great night and an amazing way to say goodbye to our seniors. The season does not end here though, as the post season is fast approaching. The district tournament takes place in Ridgefield Park High School on Feb. 18! Please continue to support your Lodi Rams!
