The Big Gift of Christmas
Independent of the high school, LHS students have participated in this program since its start in 2011; from then to now the program has gone through a many changes but it has only become bigger and better!
The Big Gift of Christmas, founded by Brandon Giordano, is an organization that brings the gift of Christmas to struggling families in New Jersey. The program finds families, typically from Paterson and Passaic, that cannot afford to provide a Christmas for their family. The Big Gift team shops and wraps personalized Christmas presents for each member of a family. Then, during two weekends in December the deliveries are made. The large group of about 100 volunteers provides each and every family with decorations, presents, and their very own tree. On Christmas Eve, the families are given a meal that feeds up to 10 people.
There are several ways to get involved in this charity whether it be a donation or volunteering your time. This is a great experience not only for the families receiving, but for all the people giving their time and effort. Thomas S. Monson said, “Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting.” Any contribution that can be made to this charity, or any other, is much appreciated especially during the holiday season.
