The Historic Year of the Roborams
In Lodi High School, there are many amazing and wonderful clubs that provide students with the opportunity and experience of what they might want to pursue in the future after graduating. One of these clubs being the Robotics Club, a club where students get funded to build a robot from scratch in order to operate in several competitions throughout the school year. And what the Robotics team achieved during the 2022-2023 scholastic year is nothing short of impressive.
The Robotics team has many members, new ones joining every year and older members teaching the newer ones how to maintain the club after they graduate. However, the older classmen, or the seniors, are the ones that really run robotics. These are made up of the core 6, which are: Maheen Madhi, building captain; Christopher Falconi, building officer; Paul Boyaci, programming captain; Aiden Cabrera, programming officer; Eileen Balakrishnan, business captain; Dunia Zawareh, business officer. These six seniors are the face of Robotics and are making sure to pass their knowledge to the underclassmen that are a part of robotics that will be the next face of the club.
The Robotics season is made up of around 4 comps in a school year which can goo all the way to states and worlds with high enough scores. The season began November 5th, with the Roborams first competition at Don Bosco Preparatory High School where the Roborams placed 6th place in their categories. Afterward, they had their second competition of the year two weeks later, November 19th. This one took place at Ridge Wood High School where they placed 4th in the entire competition and also earning a nomination for the Inspire award. Following that competition came an almost 2-month break that ceased January 7th when they had their third competition at the Liberty Science center where they landed 1st place overall and won the 1st place design award. Following the third competition came their fourth and final competition in Emerson, that is if they didn’t win 1st place and make the state competition. And after 3 rigorous hours, the Roborams were able to achieve 1st place again in their 4th competition, winning again the 1st place design award and reaching states, a first ever in Lodi Robotics history. With emotions high, they soon prepared for the state competition that came two weeks after their last one, or March 12th. The Roborams were ready for a day high emotions and hard work at Morris Knolls High School, trying to get a win. And although they did an amazing job and worked very hard, they ranked 15th in the state competition out of 50 teams. Big congratulations to the Roborams for making it so far this year, making history in the process, never seen before in Lodi history. Hopefully the underclassmen are ready to take on the roles of this incredible club and carry it to success moving forward. All in all, astounding job Roborams, the entire town of Lodi is very proud of you.
