FAFSA Day
The morning of Jan. 22, college financial aid counselors came to Lodi High School in order to help our students complete their FAFSA application. From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. students came in with their parent/guardian to fill out their application. Mrs. Orosz made sure beforehand that every student had all the documents he or she needed. The FAFSA information was sent to the school(s) on the students’ application and will contact the student if they need further information. The school(s) will use the FAFSA information to determine how much money the student may receive. According to intern, Mary Lorencovitz, “This was a complete success because this probably helped more students complete the FAFSA, then if they had to do it on their own.” Mr Ciofalo commented, “We identified that very few students and their families were able to complete and submit the FAFSA on their own. We decided to develop our own Financial Aid Day to assist our students and parents with this complicated process. We had 21 financial aid counselors in attendance and 80 students registered for the event. Of those 80 students, approximately 40 parents/guardians accompanied their students to meet with financial aid counselors. Every student and parent walked away from their meetings feeling much more comfortable and knowledgeable about the FAFSA and financial aid process. The financial aid counselors were very impressed with how prepared our students were and how respectful and maturely they presented themselves. “
All in all, everything was a success.
