Take Control with Self Defense

Women are targeted by many criminals because they seem fragile or unable to defend themselves. Many women panic in the state of an attack causing them to be easily overtaken. In this world full of uncertainties, a person can come across such circumstances in which he or she has to defend him/herself. Also, with the excessive rise in crime rates, the need for learning how to defend oneself is growing. On May 11, Detective Castro’s wife, Cindy (Officer Castro), his brother, David, and his daughter, Andrea, visited LHS to demonstrate the importance of self defense. Officer Castro shared some stories about sexual harassment along with a PowerPoint on how to avoid such situations and be safe. The senior girls also had fun while practicing self defense steps with David Castro. Self-defense is physical techniques that are applied to protect oneself from being harmed. A self defense course is designed to make someone more aware, prepared, and ready for any situation that may occur in everyday life on any given day. Statistics indicate that one in three women will be the victim of some type of violent attack in her lifetime. Everyday in the news we hear about women being attacked, women being raped, beaten, and murdered. It’s time for a shift, a revolution in thinking: What if, instead of being fearful we learned how to be fearsome? All it takes is a few self-defense tactics to keep you from becoming another victim.
