Home Alone is a classic comical holiday movie for people of all ages and is still currently very popular, more than 30 years later. The movie is based on an eight year old boy, Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left at home while his family leaves for a vacation to Paris. He wakes up the morning that they were supposed to leave and finds himself stuck in his house with no one else there. This gives him the chance to enjoy and experience the freedom that he wished for. Kevin is played by Macaulay Culkin who perfectly performs mischief that children get into. Throughout the time of being home alone, Kevin sets up traps all throughout his house to stop and scare away the burglars Harry and Marv. On Kevin’s journey of figuring out how to navigate life by himself without his family, he runs into a guy at the church and begins speaking to him. Giving him some very powerful advice, the guy leaves and makes up with his son who he hadn’t spoken to in a while.
Along with the comedy, this movie also portrays the themes of belonging, family, and the importance of appreciating those who love you. As Kevin’s experience in his house alone is filled with unforgettable and hilarious memories, he realizes how important his family really is to him and what it really is like to have a family. He also acknowledges the fact that he needs to be more appreciative of his family and be thankful that he has one that cares so much for him that they eventually realized he was missing. Overall I feel that “Home Alone” is a very entertaining and inspiring movie for everyone to enjoy especially during holidays.
