Being part of a sports team comes with a significant amount of physical benefits that help athletes become healthier, stronger, and more confident in their physical appearance. Going to practice and giving all your effort will ultimately help you be able to perform better than ever when it comes time to game days or competitions. Being in attendance at practices will also help you become more confident in your appearance and ultimately could help put your mind at ease, especially if the practice goes good and everyone does what they have to do. It’s most important that everyone is putting in the same amount of effort during games and practices to ensure that you see the best performance from the team as a whole, because no one single athlete will be able to carry the weight of any slackers that may be on a field, court, or mat with them. No matter if you’re stunting in cheer, running bases in softball/baseball, training hard for wrestling, running down a soccer field, dribbling the ball down a basketball court, or hitting a volleyball across a net, it is extremely important that you push yourself to your full potential.
Aside from growing as an athlete, sports help to teach young individuals many important life lessons such as time management, discipline, and how to set goals and work to your full potential in order to achieve them. Over the course of time, athletes also learn how to handle working under pressure, how to bounce back after mistakes and losses, and how to overcome any challenge that is thrown their way. Oftentimes, playing sports can help clear people’s minds, since exercising releases endorphins that improves your mood and reduces anxiety and stress. Student athletes often find practice as an outlet where they are able to escape any problems they may have in school, or even at home with their families or friends, allowing them to focus on something that they love or have a strong interest in.
Finally, being part of a sports team helps to create strong relationships with the athletes, coaches, and parents, and builds a sense of family and unity. Your teammates and coaches will help you through the entire season; they are there to encourage you, celebrate wins together, and to support each other through failures and losses. It is most important to form an incredibly strong bond and relationship with your teammates since they are the ones that are going to be performing or playing with you, and you must trust their abilities at all times. Friendships that are formed through sports are often those that can last a lifetime since you are more likely to have things in common and relate to each other on a different level. Coaches are also mentors that push their athletes to be the best version of themselves. Even when their athlete may not see their full potential, I know for certain that their coaches will and that they will always push you to be better and work a little harder to see that side of yourself. Overall, playing sports can help to shape athletes, not only in a physical aspect but also mentally and emotionally. The lessons these young athletes learn along the way will be ones that stick with them for the rest of their lives.
