It has been 30 years since the release of the Tim Burton classic, The Night Before Christmas.. Despite this, the debate over whether this movie is a Christmas or a Halloween movie continues to challenge viewers. While the movie begins with typical expectations of Halloween fair and frenzy, the movie takes a mysterious turn once the main character, Jack makes the discovery of doors in the woods. Jack and the citizens celebrate Halloween as usual, but Jack comes across doors in the woods that contain other holidays aside from his normal Halloween world.
The one particular door Jack opens up is Christmas Town which took him by surprise. He later found himself comparing Halloween to Christmas. It became an obsession that Jack had to understand the way Christmas is celebrated, which is why he came to the conclusion that he wants to take over the celebration of Christmas. As a result, he successfully kidnapped Santa Claus which led to several people having their Christmas ruined.
After Jack realizes his actions, he deeply apologizes to Santa who assures him that there is still time to save Christmas. With all of this being said, many questions have been asked throughout the years to the cast of The Nightmare Before Christmas. To the surprise of many, the director, Henry Selick, has confirmed that it is a Halloween movie. Although it is confirmed, many still believe that it is a Christmas movie due to the title.
