Lodi History
Origins
In 1894, in the boroughs of New Jersey, Lodi was incorporated as a township known as Barbados. The idea of the town was named after an Italian city during 1826. Towards the end of 1940 part of Lodi was taken and incorporated into Harrison township, by Hudson county.
NAPP TECHNOLOGIES INCIDENT
Robert Rennie, is known as the father of Lodi, he opened a printing press and dyeing business, establishing Lodi’s industry. Lodi’s Industrial growth was mainly dye and chemical factories which moved into Lodi after the 1940s, replacing the earlier textile mills. An explosion took place around 1995, at a place called NAPP Technologies facility. Was one of the most tragic incidents to happen before the 2000s for Lodi, ending many lives, injuring those around. The horrific scene lives forever; for those who lost their loved ones and for those who were injured. It took 23 years to fully re-develop the land in the center of the town where NAPP Technologies had stood. This demonstrates how time is the most important aspect when rebuilding your communities, and it takes time to rebound from an incident such as this one. Rebuilding the industry after a disaster took extensive environmental cleanup, which came with a long history of violations and workplace accidents.
