Many people get this feeling of negativity. It’s common for most people to feel differently all seasons. It isn’t abnormal to feel significantly more sad during the winter than in the summer. The change in feeling happens during either the beginning of a season or the end of one. These mood changes may be common, but can really leave a serious effect on a person’s mental state. Their feelings, well-being, thought process, and behavior could be severely affected and if so, then they might be experiencing what’s called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD is considered a type of depression described by a constant season pattern. This disorder can last around 4-5 months out of the year. Symptoms of this kind of depression could be: A persistent sad, anxious, or empty mood most of the day, feelings of hopelessness or pessimism, feelings or irritability, frustration, or restlessness, feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness. For the winter it would be: Oversleeping, overeating, social withdrawal.
And for the Summer: Trouble sleeping, poor appetite, restlessness and agitation. These are all forms of seasonal depression and should be respected and taken into account for when feeling unlike yourself. There are other ways of overcoming such challenges other than taking antidepressants and anxiety pills. You can also do something called Light Therapy, a treatment that uses bright UV light exposing your skin. It can increase your wakefulness during the day and lift your mood by causing chemical reactions in the brain. All in all, no matter what you are going through, it’s important to be educated on your symptoms and always to have someone trusted to talk to. Especially for those who have family; Mother, Father, Siblings. Even just sitting with your pets, just relaxing, and calming down. There will always be someone willing to help you when you’re in need.
