Scream 1
Scream 1 takes place in Casey’s house who is a high school student at Woodsboro. She receives a call from an unfamiliar number and is asked a series of questions. Casey does not take them seriously until she looks at her patio and sees Steve, her boyfriend, injured and strapped to a chair. Casey then realizes the depth of the situation. She does as the man tells her. Unfortunately for Casey, she fails; and so, Steve, gutted in the chair, is left in the light. Casey begins to find ways to escape and is almost successful as she sees her parents arriving at the door, but she is ultimately subdued and stabbed as she is dragged off-camera and hung up on a tree for her parents to see.
We then cut to the new main character of the movie, Sidney, who we find out shortly after has a boyfriend named Billy. Later, Sidney goes to school only to hear more about the murder. She asks her friend Tatum for the details, and Tatum describes it as the worst murder in the town yet. Later, we find out that she sleeps over at Tatum’s house since her dad will be leaving for the airport soon. Sidney sleeps throughout the day when suddenly she gets a phone call. She picks up the phone, and it’s the same person who called Casey before the man murdered her. Sidney is both unaware and unfazed when the man tells her he is outside, staring at her from afar. Sidney takes it as a joke and says he’s bluffing.
As Sidney goes outside and finds she was correct, the man on the phone becomes violent as she tries to come back inside, saying that she’ll end up like her mother, who had been murdered and sexually assaulted. In a panic, she curses him out. Sidney goes to lock the door, but when she does, she is attacked by the killer. She fights him off, rushes upstairs, locks her door, and puts another door in front of it. As she dials 911 on her phone, she realizes there is a block, so she dials it on her computer. When she turns around to see if the killer is still trying to get in, he vanishes. Then, all of a sudden, Billy comes in through the window. Sidney is both shocked and relieved to see a familiar face. She goes to hug him, but when she does, a cellular phone device falls out of his pocket. She begins to get suspicious and believes he’s the killer.
She runs down the stairs, unlocks the door, and is startled by the police officer (Dewey, Tatum’s older brother). They find Billy and take him in as a suspect while Sidney has to come to the station to be questioned. Afterward, the main reporter, who appears a lot, Gale Weathers, tries to interview Sidney. Sidney punches her in the face after talking with her for a little bit and runs off with Dewey and Tatum. As she’s ready to sleep, Tatum’s mother comes in to say that Sidney has a call. Confused, Sidney goes to pick up the phone, and it’s the same man who tried to call her, now on the line. She panics and hangs up the phone, waking everyone else up to console her as they try to go to sleep.
The next day, Sidney approaches Gale Weathers when she comes to school and tries to apologize for hitting her. This brings up the argument that the person Sidney accused of her mother’s murder is innocent and that the real killer is still out there. Gale Weathers realizes that the man she accused, named Cotton, wasn’t actually the murderer. Sidney walks away before punching her again and apologizes once more for hitting her.
Sidney goes through the day and is tormented by other students pretending to be the killer, “Ghost Face.” This originates from the killer wearing a common cheap Ghost Face mask and a black shroud costume. Sidney goes into the bathroom and tries to calm down. She hears two students gossiping about her, which makes her feel sick to her stomach, and she sits in silence and listens. She goes to wash her face when she is attacked in the bathroom by Ghost Face. She manages to escape and runs into Billy. They haven’t talked since the incident, and as they’re talking, Billy’s only concern is for them to engage in sexual activities and for her to move on from her mother’s death. This makes Sidney angry, and she storms away from him and out of the school.
Later that day, she gets invited to a party by Tatum and her boyfriend, Stu. Sidney accepts and goes to the party. As she’s partying, Sidney meets Billy, and Stu tells them to go make up upstairs alone. Sidney and Billy talk for a little bit and shortly make up. However, Sidney then watches Billy get murdered in front of her. While she is running, she finds that Tatum has been murdered, and shortly after, Sidney is captured by the killers, who reveal themselves as Billy and Stu. Billy wanted revenge against Sidney since Sidney’s mom had an affair with his dad, causing them to break up. Sidney manages to break free as the reporter Gale Weathers shows up to try to stop the two from harming her. Sidney manages to call the cops while fighting both Stu and Billy. She winds up electrocuting Stu with a TV to death, and then Billy dies from a bullet to the head, ending things off. After the announcement of the killers, the movie concludes with Gale Weathers doing a full report on how it all went down.
