September 2023 to January 2024 Recap
As the year goes on, abrupt events in our world ensue. Here is what happened between September 2023 to January 2024. Exclusively on the Rampage.
- September 2023
Turmoil shook the House of Representatives with Speaker Kevin McCarthy being removed from office. This is the first time in history that something like this has happened. He was removed because the Republican party didn’t agree with K. McCarthy trying to push a bipartisan bill to prevent a government shutdown. A war over control of the seat broke out within the Republican party itself. Many tried and failed to secure the seat as the party was divided between moderates and far-right conservatives. Eventually, they settled on Representative Mike Johnson to lead the House and try to retain order.
- October 2023
Leading up to October, the Israel-Hamas War broke out and gained attention all around the world. Protests broke out across major cities around the globe and continue to be a major media focus. The Israel-Hamas War has continued, much to the dismay of international organizations who called for peace. With the continuing conflict, many businesses, such as Starbucks, have been boycotted, and calls to an end have been made.
- November 2023
“Life at Seas inaugural Cruise” was supposed to be a 3 year cruise adventure that cost thousands of dollars and promised a fun vacation for people all over the world. The company went radio silent before announcing that the cruise would be canceled and would refund disgruntled customers. Its maiden voyage was supposed to depart in Istanbul, Turkey on November 1st, but was postponed and changed to Amsterdam. The cruise ultimately shut down.
- December 2023
The Ukrainian War has continued as well, with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, meeting with President Joe Biden to secure future military aid. The United States and other NATO allies have pledged millions in equipment and aid to the Eastern European nation as it faces off against Russia. With the prolonged war having no end in sight, only more aid can be pledged to keep Ukraine in the fight.
- January 2024
As we move into 2024 and towards our presidential election, many politicians have thrown their hat into the ring. The main candidate for the Democratic party is, of course, the current president Joe Biden. However, the Republican party has been far more entertaining with the biggest candidates being Donald Trump, Vivek Ramswamy, Nikki Hayley, and Ron DeSantis. Now it’s down to the former President Trump and former Governor of South Carolina NIkki Hayley.
The United States faced an exceptionally harsh winter. There have been three dozen deaths related to winter storms since January 12th with the winter weather affecting both the Northern and Southern States. The freezing rain and wind pelting is leading to power outages in more than 85,000 homes and businesses across the Pacific Northwest. The weather has been nearly historic across the nation and has left destruction in its wake.
