When We Know It, You'll Know It

National Honor Society

October 12, 2014

National Honors Society elections have come and gone and the newest leaders of the most prestigious club in the school are as follows:

President: Gorav Kumar-
“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember you can achieve.” ~Mary Kay Ash

Vice President: Lauren Shahine-
“What lies behind you and what lies in front of you pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Corresponding Secretary: Morgan Guarino-
“If you can dream it, you can do it.” ~Walt Disney

Recording Secretary: Kaetlynn Ayala-
“There are always obstacles on the road to success. Build your perseverance and willpower to overcome them.”

Treasurer: Wendy Mejia
“Motivation to success starts from inspiration deep within you.”

These five individuals have been deemed the best of the best. They are intelligent, dedicated, and have all worked to not only make this school a better place but our community as well. Now, after hearing about the NHS leaders, I’m sure you’re thinking how you could get into a club like this? After interviewing our two NHS advisers, we should give you all the answers you need:

Mrs. Neshan has always enjoyed working with NHS students – the students who are hard working, dedicated, and those who take time to help others. She believes that being apart of this club also helped her become a part of the community and more involved with many different charities. When thinking about her candidates she looks for those desiring to help others. She wants students who want to make difference, who can be respectful, and who can be strong leaders.

The first activity NHS takes part in is Clean up Memorial Park. They also then create Thanksgiving baskets for needy families within the community. This year, they are looking to work with Shelter Our Sisters, a charity to help those who deal with domestic violence. One last message from Mrs. Neshan is, “Never give up! Every experience, good or bad, is a chance to see what you are able to do and what you can still become. I would tell anyone who meets the GPA requirement to apply and see what happens.”

Mr. Tarleton has become another NHS adviser this past year; however, he has always been helping out, whether it be with speeches or even in the activities itself. It was natural to him to assist Mrs. Neshan, so he expanded his role. He is impressed by the students who speak well and those who don’t make extravagant promises but are clear and sincere in what they are doing. Mr. Tarleton’s message to those interested in NHS, “Many students excel in one or two areas. They have to be well-rounded, involved in activities and clubs.”

If you meet the GPA requirements and you truly want to do good for your school and community, apply to this club and do NOT give up; YOU can make a difference!
