During this stressful time, it is important to know what we can do to protect ourselves and those around us. As the Coronavirus continues to spread, you may be asking yourself, “How can I stay safe?” or “How can I help slow the spread of the virus?” There are many steps you can take to help prevent the spread of germs during this crisis:

  • Stay home if you can and avoid being with more than 10 people at a time. It is especially important to stay at home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Practice social distancing: You should stay at least six feet away from another person. If you are too close to someone when they cough or sneeze, you may breathe in those droplets. To avoid physical contact while greeting another person, nodding, smiling, or waving are the safest options.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth after you touch surfaces. The virus can transfer from your hands to you eyes, nose or mouth, where the virus can enter your body.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you do not have soap and water available to you, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Practice good hygiene by coughing or sneezing into your elbow or a tissue.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces often. This includes tables, counter-tops, doorknobs, light switches, phones, keyboards, etc.
  • If you develop any of the symptoms, such as shortness of breath, dry cough, fever or tiredness, be sure to contact your doctor and seek care immediately!
