The Third Day of Christmas

Many of you are familiar with the story of The Elf on the Shelf. For those who aren’t, The Elf on the Shelf is a children’s story about an elf who is sent from the North Pole to observe children behavior. The elf stays with these families and then reports back to Santa. During the day, the elf just sits anywhere in the house, whether it be a counter, in a cabinet, or actually on a shelf and it doesn’t move. However, during the night, the elf returns to Santa with a report on how the child has been acting. This determines if the child belongs on the nice or naughty list. While returning back to the child’s house, the elf changes location in the home from where he were in the previous night. The child then finds the elf the next day in a different position.

Ever since 2005, the book has grown widely popular. Many parents think it is a great way to get their kids to stay nice during the busy holiday season. Some parents even keep it going all year round! It even seems that the parents enjoy it more than the kids do! Parents like to be creative with their elves when their kids go to sleep. The possibilities are endless. Many parents tend to get their ideas off of the internet but it sure doesn’t mean that they aren’t fun and amazing.

Although it is becoming a beloved tradition for many parents, some people are just not on board. Lodi High School’s very own, Mrs. Neshan is one of these parents. She feels that if kids are old enough to understand that an elf is watching them then they could understand to be good all year round. Although, if there was an actual all year elf, she would totally be on board! She also said that it is too much work to make the scenarios for the elf to be in, which does take a lot of time and effort.

For some teachers in this school, this idea doesn’t phase them at all. Some of them have insane ideas for their Elf on the Shelf. These few teachers go over the top to make their elves return to the house in style! Some teachers that definitely deserve recognition for their creative ideas are Mrs. Debowska, Mrs. Passano, and Mrs. Pollaro. All of them had great ways to really make their elves come to life! Check out the pictures attached to see what they came up with!
